When you first login to your WordPress installation you will land on the “dashboard”. The dashboard is a series of summary panels that display the status of or recent activity on your website.

If you are not doing blogging or e-commerce then the dashboard is not a very useful place and you will likely navigate away from it directly to “pages”, “posts” or “media”.

Note that the dashboard is completely customisable. You can for example open and close panels by clicking and re-clicking on the little up and down triangles in the right hand corner of each panel.

Additionally you can turn panels on and off using the “screen options” at the top right of the screen, then dragging panels into your perferred layout by click, holding, dragging and dropping on the title of a panel.
